Others.
Many religious leaders emphasize serving others as an important principle of their respective religions.
While it is true that thinking of others is an integral part of spiritual development it can seem onerous if we embrace this practice as a moral obligation.
A better way to approach this is through love.
Love of others automatically brings unselfishness and circumvents any bitterness or resentment that can accrue when we feel we are obliged to serve others.
So, rather than embracing unselfishness as a mental principle, we can open our hearts to others and experience the joy of love.
