The old way of preaching was to do good works to earn your place in Heaven. Otherwise you would go to hell.
This fear-based message is not what Jesus taught.
It is the carrot and stick religion of the conservative establishment whose motivation is to control the masses.
Jesus taught to love God and love your neighbor.
Salvation is a free gift from God not something we have to earn.
And while much good has been done by the Church in the past this fear undermined the central message of Love.
So overcome your fears and your lack of faith.
Love with all your heart.
And good works will follow.
