Dreams and Visions.
It seems astonishing to me that religious leaders have interpreted the Bible literally in the past.
Everything I learn of God is symbolic: from the poetry of the Old Testament to the parables of Jesus.
Even Revelation, so popular with the fundamentalists, could hardly be described as literal.
God is imaginative, artistic, subtle.....
"Then afterwards, I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions." Joel 2:28 (NRSV)
So I can no longer sustain a literal interpretation of the Bible.
The Bible is myth and metaphor, poetry and symbol.
