Sexual Orientation.

When liberal Christians talk about social justice their words go as far as gender issues but never include sexual orientation.

They seem to think that gay rights are somehow too risky, too political, and beyond the scope of Christian compassion.

Although many may privately support equality for gay and lesbian people their support never extends to the public arena.

This is noticeable whenever gay issues arise in public.
Christians always take the anti-position and condemn us outright.
You never see Christians supporting gays and lesbians in the media.

The liberal Churches seem to think that accepting gays and lesbians is enough.
They never extend their hand to active support.

Considering Jesus' Church is exhorted to speak for the voiceless in society it is disappointing that they are unable to speak up for gays and lesbians today.

Apart from the issue of same sex marriage there are many gay rights issues today that could be supported by liberal Christians.

It is not enough to just sit on your hands and be silent.

I call on all Christians to overcome their fear and actively support sexual orientation as a human rights issue.

  1. This seems to be changing slowly over time. Please look at the NALT Project to watch video after video of Christian's who are speaking out in support of their LGBT brothers and sisters! Please check it out! :o)

    1. Thank you for your comment.
      I'll check out NALT.

  2. Believers DO need to be more vocal on gender issues. However, I think this is increasing.

I agree with Blonde that NALT is a great project. I have not made a video because I do not yet have access to the necessary equipment, but I plan to do so.

In addition, though I have not devoted any full posts to the subject of LGBTQ issues, it is one of my seven Key Baggage Issues. My blog is not old enough to have addressed all seven issues. http://jesuswithoutbaggage.wordpress.com/key-baggage-issues/

If you are not already familiar with her, you may be interested in Rachel Held Evans, one of the most well-known progressive Christian bloggers. She frequently champions gay issues. Here is a collection from her blog: http://rachelheldevans.com/blog?tag=homosexuality

Thanks for your encouragement for all of us to speak up more in gay rights.

    1. Thanks Tim for you encouragement.
      I'll check out Rachel's blog.
I don't preach a lot on this subject.
But it is an important issue for the Church.
